Sing the Jolly Phonics song and do the actions. Can you think of anything that has the sound ‘qu’ in?

2. New Sound: 'qu'

Our Reception Letters and Sounds Phonics lessons teach children to read letters and begin to blend to read words.

3. Building 'qu' words with Miss Purcell

For this activity you will need your sound cards or magnetic letters or something similar. Lay them out in front of you so you can see the sounds clearly. We will be using these to build words. If you haven't printed out the 'qu' digraph yet, you could make this on a piece of paper or card.

Your grown up will read the story to you, however, you will be able to help to read some of the words and sounds.

Can you spot the digraph 'qu' in any of the words?

Can you spot these tricky words in the story: the, go, her, be, to

Can you find and read these words in the story: runs, is, ducks, as, quick, at, in, sun, gets, quilt, sick, but, will, not, quit, up, helps, well, on
