Remote Learning at Worth Primary School
Our approach to remote learning
Whilst we hope that this will not be a common occurrence, we do recognise that there may be exceptional circumstances in which we have to return to remote learning. We have been working to develop a clear strategy to support remote learning if the whole school, a class, group or small number of pupils need to learn from home.
In these rare circumstances all children will be expected to engage with the curriculum being provided by the school in order that they continue to progress and do not fall behind with their learning and we hope that all parents/carers will support the children with this.
It will be the responsibility of parents/carers to ensure that their child is actively participating in all aspects of the school day from home.
Teachers will monitor engagement and report any concerns to the Headteacher.
We appreciate that there may be a few difficulties when we implement this way of learning - we are here to help so please contact us if you are struggling.
Work and activities that will be provided
Once the school has moved to remote learning we will provide the following:
First Day
Second day onwards
Staff will provide instructions and links to any supporting materials that may be appropriate. They will use some of their live session to explain/answer questions about the work that has been set. We will endeavour to ensure that once the instructions have been read/explained, children will be able to complete their tasks fairly independently.
Please note - There is no expectation for worksheets to be printed, work can be done practically or on any paper/in a notebook that are available at home.
Access to technology
We know that access to remote learning is a challenge for some of our families for a variety of reasons. If you are struggling with devices, please contact us.
Expectations for the children’s engagement
It is expected that all pupils engage with remote learning, on a regular basis. School understand the pressures of home learning and appreciate that children may not be able to log in to every session. School expects to see daily engagement, either through submission of work or attendance at live sessions unless notified otherwise by parents. This is important as often the work set will continue to build on previous learning.
Children should continue following the standards set by their class teacher regarding handwriting and presentation of work and for every child to work to their best ability.
Children should be appropriately dressed for live sessions.
Supporting children’s learning
We would recommend creating a dedicated area for your child to work on their remote education and at the start of the lesson they have access to the appropriate resources (e.g. pencil, appropriate book, access to the school website).
Try and establish a routine that works for your family. School understands that not every family will be able to stick to the usual times of the school day and families may be juggling the work from more than one school.
It is beneficial for the children if they have some time to move, exercise, and have a break to help them stay focused when working.
It would be helpful to have any log in details for live sessions to hand will also make this process easier for your child.
Please remember that you can always seek help from the school if you need it.
Emails and contact with school
Teachers will be happy to receive any questions or feedback from parents through the admin email address. These will be forwarded to staff who will aim to respond to these in a timely manner but this may not be on the same day. Please be aware that some staff work part-time and will not be expected to respond on non-working days.
The admin email address will be monitored during the school working day. We kindly ask families to be respectful of staff well-being and to understand that a response to communications should not be expected outside of the hours of a school working day.
