PE Curriculum Statement

At Worth Primary School, we believe that Physical Education is essential to ensure that all children achieve their full physical, emotional and social potential. Our PE curriculum is designed to promote enjoyment, resilience and confidence, while developing the key skills that support a healthy, active lifestyle. We aim to deliver high-quality teaching and learning experiences that inspire all pupils to succeed and grow, not only in physical competence but also in cooperation, fairness and teamwork. Through PE, we want children to learn how to stay safe, including the crucial life skill of swimming, and to understand the values of equity, collaboration and respect.

Our PE curriculum is ambitious, broad and inclusive, and follows the National Curriculum and EYFS Framework. Children engage in a wide range of physical activities including invasion games, net and wall games, strike and field games, gymnastics, dance, swimming, and outdoor and adventurous activities. Every child takes part in two structured PE lessons per week, covering a variety of sporting disciplines throughout the year. In addition, children access extra-curricular sports clubs, both before and after school, and benefit from sessions delivered by professional coaches offering exposure to diverse sporting opportunities.

Swimming is provided for all pupils in Years 3 and 4, ensuring children develop water confidence and competence. We also participate in local sports competitions and festivals as part of the local schools’ sports association, enabling children to experience competitive sport in an inclusive and supportive environment. These events build confidence, develop leadership and teamwork, and support mental well-being.

The impact of our PE provision is seen in the enthusiasm and motivation of our pupils, who enjoy being active and are proud of their progress and achievements. Children leave Worth Primary with a positive attitude towards health and fitness, a secure understanding of the benefits of physical activity, and the skills and values needed to continue leading active, healthy lives.
