EYFS Curriculum Statement of Intent
At Worth Primary School, we believe every child deserves an education filled with meaningful and memorable experiences. We aim to nurture creativity, curiosity and a love of learning from the very start, laying strong foundations that support children in becoming happy, confident, and well-rounded individuals. Our curriculum in the Early Years is designed to be flexible and engaging, enabling each child’s unique needs, interests and talents to flourish in a safe, stimulating and inclusive environment. We provide opportunities that build key skills and knowledge, while encouraging a lifelong passion for learning.
We recognise that children learn best when they feel secure, valued and supported by strong relationships with trusted adults. With this in mind, we create an environment that fosters mutual respect, confidence and independence. Our Early Years curriculum begins with a strong focus on high-quality, intentional teaching and adult-led activities that introduce and embed essential concepts and skills. These are then explored and reinforced through child-initiated learning and continuous provision, both indoors and outdoors.
Our learning spaces — classrooms, outdoor provision and woodland area — are carefully planned to enhance the curriculum and support purposeful play. Children are encouraged to explore, ask questions, solve problems and take appropriate risks in their learning. We provide varied experiences that include creative, cultural and practical opportunities, helping children to understand and appreciate the world around them.
As a result, our children are enthusiastic, inquisitive learners who are well-prepared for the transition into Key Stage One. By the end of the Foundation Stage, they will have developed the essential knowledge, skills and attitudes they need for life and learning. They will leave the Early Years at Worth Primary School as confident, curious individuals who are equipped to embrace the next stage of their education and beyond.
