Religious Education Curriculum Statement
At Worth Primary School, we follow the Cheshire East Locally Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education. Our intent is to help children develop knowledge and understanding of a range of religions and worldviews, enabling them to explore their own ideas, values and identities. Through respectful enquiry and reflection, we encourage pupils to appreciate diversity and engage in thoughtful dialogue, preparing them to contribute positively to life in a multi-faith and multi-cultural society.
The foundations of our RE curriculum begin in the Early Years through the ‘Understanding the World’ strand of the EYFS Framework, supporting personal, social and emotional development. As pupils progress through school, they explore how beliefs and practices vary within and between different faiths, and how these influence individuals, families and communities. Children learn to reflect critically on how meaning is expressed in different ways and consider how beliefs shape life choices and moral understanding. They are encouraged to ask and explore challenging questions about belonging, truth, purpose and ethics, developing thoughtful and informed responses. Lessons promote discussion, creativity and independent thinking, while fostering a respectful curiosity about the beliefs of others.
By the end of Key Stage 2, pupils are able to articulate their own ideas and beliefs with confidence, while recognising and respecting those of others. They develop the skills to interpret and evaluate religious texts and practices, and understand the impact of different faiths and worldviews on people’s lives. Our RE curriculum supports children in becoming reflective, open-minded and compassionate individuals who are able to engage with the wider world in a respectful and informed way.
Withdrawal from RE lessons
Parents have a right by law to withdraw their children from the Religious Education curriculum. In this event, the school will undertake responsibility for the supervision of withdrawn pupils with regard to health and safety, and alternative work will be provided.
