  • Year 1 have fun with making toys!

Fri 16 Feb 2024 Sarah Giles

On Tuesday, Year 1 had some very special visitors. As part of their topic about toys, Toys in School came in to lead a workshop in toy making. The children really enjoyed looking at a variety of different wooden toys and learning about how they moved using pushes, pulls and gravity. Then the children had great fun making their very own moving wooden toys. Their finished toys were very impressive!

  • Poynton Schools Joint Pupil Council

Fri 16 Feb 2024 Sarah Giles

On Tuesday, our Year 5 and 6 Pupil Council representatives went to a joint Pupil Council meeting held at the Civic Centre in Poynton. They were joined by Pupil Councillors from Poynton High School, Vernon Primary, Lostock Hall Primary, Lower Park Primary and Disley Primary. They discussed how safe they felt around Poynton, what they felt could be improved around Poynton and what impact they felt the removal of trees at Poynton Pool would have as well as how the biodiversity of Poynton could be retained. They shared their ideas with a very special representative from Poynton Town Council - the Mayor himself! The Mayor said he enjoyed listening to the children's perspectives on local issues and that their views will be passed over to the Town Council.

  • Year 5's Victorian Workshop

Fri 16 Feb 2024 Sarah Giles

A workshop in school allowed Year 5 to travel back in time to learn about some of the incredible inventions of the Victorian era. They made phonograph strips by punching holes in paper which were then played through the phonograph to make sounds. They learned about Morse code and used pneumatics to make a toy train travel along a railway track. finally, they dressed up as Victorians to have their picture taken as this was 'all the rage' when the photographic camera was invented!

  • Young Voices 2024

Fri 09 Feb 2024 Sarah Giles

On Tuesday, our Year 5 and 6 choir took part in Young Voices 2024. This is an incredible experience for the children as they get to be part of the largest school choir in the world! The children joined 8,000 other primary school children for a mass rehearsal in the afternoon followed by an evening performance to family and friends in the AO Arena in Manchester. The children get to perform with a professional conductor, a live band and special guest artists - Urban Strides Dance group, MCGrammar, Natasha Hamilton and Nandi Bushell. Thank you to Mrs Hall for the time she spends organising and rehearsing our choir. Thank you to all the family and friends who came to support their children and enthusiastically 'busted a few moves' to some 90's dance classics. Most of all, thank you to the children who were amazing, a real credit to our school, great company and an absolute pleasure to enjoy the experience with. For a taste of the experience, have a look at the video on our Young Voices 2024 page.
