On Monday 6th March some staff and children attended the 2023 Cheshire LTA Awards as our lovely tennis coach, Mike Atherfold had nominated us for ‘School of the Year’. We were praised for providing tennis coaching to all year groups and promoting tennis as a sport through Mike and Josh's morning tennis clubs. We are the 2023 ‘runners up’. and we had lots to celebrate that evening because our very own Lucy (Y5) is a Cheshire Champion, Mike won Competition of the Year and was runner up for Coach of the Year and Joey (Y4) & Maggie (Y6) had both their Mum and Grandma collect awards as well!
On Wednesday 8th March, we went on a very exciting trip to Chester in connection with our topic on the Romans. We visited the Grosvenor museum where we learnt all about the Roman invasion of Britain and what they left behind. The museum had plenty of artefacts for the children to handle and investigate, including pottery, coins and mosaics and the chance to imagine themselves as archaeologists examining the layers of a local dig. They even enjoyed a bit of dressing up!
In the afternoon, the children experienced a taste of what it was like to be in the Roman army themselves. With their own shields, they were marched through the streets by a real Roman soldier! We stopped off at the remains of an amphitheatre. It was here that the children learnt how to organise themselves into different battle formations. They learnt how to use them to attack the enemy and even tested them out on the teachers!
Everybody had a great time, despite the cold weather. Well done to all the children in Year 4 for their enthusiasm throughout the day.

On Tuesday, our Reception class went to Poynton Library. They listened to a story with the librarians and found out all about Poynton library. Then they had the opportunity to spend time looking through all their exciting books.
World Book Day
We had a brilliant World Book Day. The children looked fabulous, coming dressed as a whole host of different characters. The staff joined in the fun as well becoming characters from Roald Dahl books. The children had great fun throughout the day talking about books, making books and there was even some Harry Potter themed Yoga!
A huge thank you to all our parents and carers for supporting the children with their costumes for this special day.
On Tuesday, Year 3 took a very exciting trip to the Silk Museum in Macclesfield as an introduction to their new topic - Ancient Egyptians. They learnt a lot of information, including details about mummification, Marianne Brocklehurst and the Egyptian Gods! They enjoyed seeing many of the items Marianne collected on her travels as well as making their own Anubis masks. Unpacking suitcases filled with replica artefacts provided great interest. The children were impeccably behaved and participated brilliantly. I'm sure they enjoyed sharing many fascinating facts with their families after the day.
Year One had a fantastic trip to Legoland this week linked to their current topic on toys. The children started the day by going on a ride to rescue the Lego Princess (luckily, we all managed to save her – Phew!) Then it was time for lots of hands on Lego making! The children built their own Lego cars and sent them down the ramps to test how well they had been made, completed Lego colour challenges, watched a 4D Lego City episode in the cinema, looked round the Lego landmark museum, explored and built their own models in the Lego pits. Then they all took part in a Spinning Tops session led by one of the Lego making experts, where they built their own launcher and spinning tops ready to test how many seconds they would spin for. Even Mrs Kay and Mrs Brown got involved in the spinning top battle to see who’s would spin for the longest amount of time! We had a great day and the children were all superstars on their fist trip in Year One 😊
Well done to our boys football team who played in their first match of the season against Lostock Hall on Thursday 9th February. Mr Adamson reports that, although we didn't win, this new team played very well, scoring and proving themselves to be brilliant sportsmen.
Last week, Years 3, 4, 5 & 6 took part in the annual local schools tennis competition, which was held at Poynton Sports Club.
All of the children represented the school superbly and played some wonderful tennis. Well done to everyone who participated and congratulations to the Year 3 and 4 A team who made it through to the Macclesfield Area Final due to winning their tournament!
What a day Reception Class have had! They've visited Adlington Petting Zoo and had an amazing time... They even watched a baby alpaca being born! Everyone had an amazing time and the staff at the farm were so thrilled with how the children listened and learned throughout the day.
The Worth's girls football team took part in their first match of the season on Tuesday and played superbly. They came back from their trip away to Vernon with 2 goals scored.
